Jennis is heading west again this summer. We had so much fun and made many great contacts last year and we are excited to return to some of the same places as well as new ones. So far, it’s looking like we’ll have shows in Sault Ste Marie, Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Canoe (Salmon Arm), Bowen Island, Prince George, Smithers, Dunster (Robson Valley Festival) and Calgary. There are a few others in the works. Can’t wait to fill my beauty bank again with our beautiful country!

First new Jennis song out of the oven!
While Dennis is traveling Southeast Asia with his wife and daughter, I am working up my parts for the new batch of Jennis songs. The first one that’s come together is a grooving reggae tune called You Never Know. I had a blast laying down some fat bass guitar and dubby back-up vocals! This is just a tease, though. You won’t hear it until we unveil at least two new songs at our next concert which is January 27 in Picton. We’ll be back at the Waring House Inn both Friday and Saturday.
Michael P and Jen G — New: SOLAR RHYTHMS
Michael Penarubia, the much beloved ecstatic dance DJ and I are announcing our new event, Solar Rhythms. This will be a quarterly dance event that will bring community together to set intentions in line with the solstices and equinoxes and to celebrate them with meditation, movement and dance. Our previous collaborations have proven to have such beautifully aligned substance with Michael on the decks with his most creative DJing together with my own contributions on a variety of live instruments (cello, didgeridoo, flute, n’goni). With a humble nod to Gary Diggins, with whom I play so many Big Beats over the years, we aim to carry that torch now that Gary has closed that long, rich chapter.
The event will take place at the beautiful Temple 23 a pre-condo warehouse gem of a studio in Liberty Village.
The dates are:
Saturday, March 18, 2017
Saturday, June 17, 2017
Saturday, September 16, 2017
Saturday, December 16, 2017
Stay tuned for details.

BUSY FALL, NEW ALBUM IN THE WORKS
Jennis had a wonderful summer full of outdoor playing opportunities that culminated in the 40th Annual Killaloe Fair on August 6th. We’ve got an equally busy fall lined up, playing all over southern Ontario.
Several new songs are in the works and we’ve been discussing arrangements, creating parts and planning for the preproduction of album #2. Already we’re looking at offers to play house concerts and other fine venues in the spring after Dennis returns from visiting his daughter in Vietnam. It seems everywhere we go and play to a new audience, we make enthusiastic contacts with people offering us attractive gigs for the next time we come to town. This includes some people involved in some of our favourite western-Canada festivals. So things are really rolling for Jennis. We are grateful and excited! Thanks for your support everyone!
Jennis home from successful western-Canada tour
We had such an amazing time in June and July playing our way westward to Northern BC and back. We made new friends and great contacts, enjoyed visiting with friends and family and filled our “beauty bank” with so much of Canada’s magnificent nature. The Midsummer Festival was a great highlight. Thanks so much to Dave McTavish for inviting us to play. I was so happy to be back in Northern BC’s Bulkely Valley, that gorgeous place filled with fabulous people where I holed up in a cabin to create my solo album High Road Haven. We hope to get back to BC next summer for more festival fun!
Jennis is booking a western tour!
Jennis is excited to announce that we are embarking on a western tour at the end of June. We’ll be hitting many towns and cities, and even doing a rural house concert or two, between Toronto and Smithers, BC, where we will be playing the Midsummer Festival. We’re still working on plugging in a few holes in our schedule but it’s coming together amazingly smoothly.
If you have any good tips for where to play in Saskatoon or Edmonton, please drop us a line. If you have friends in any of the towns listed below, let them know we’re coming! Here’s what’s booked so far:
Wednesday, June 22, The Foundry, Thunder Bay, ON
Wednesday, June 29, Nancy O’s, Prince George, BC
Thursday, June 30, The Elephant’s Ear, Terrace, BC
Friday, July 1 – Sunday, July 3, Midsummer Festival, Smithers, BC
Wednesday, July 6, Fernando’s Pub, Kelowna, BC
Friday, July 8, Wine-Ohs, Calgary, BC
Sunday, July 11, House Concert, Stony Mountain, MB
WINNERS EVEN IF WE DIDN’T WIN THE BIG PRIZE
We didn’t win the big prize at the Toronto Blues Society‘s Talent Search Contest for which we were one of six nominees. But we sure felt like winners anyway! It was a glorious day and we had a great crowd mixing a good show of our friends and family with a whole lot of new music lovers. We made some great contacts and were asked by the Blues Society prez, Derek Andrews invited us to play the TBS picnic in the park on September 13th. Many great rewards!
Another invitation to play the Ontario Regional Contact Jam
I am honoured to have been asked for the second year in a row to be the musician for the closing night of the Ontario Regional Contact Dance Jam. I’ll be creating a 2-hour energetic arc in the ecstatic dance tradition using didgeridoo, flute, kamel n’goni, cello and electronic loops viagra original pfizer. While there will be a full day of events, this live music jam will begin at 7pm at the National Ballet School in Toronto. Playing for Contact Dance is one of my favourite musical experiences. Rather than playing FOR the dancers, I enjoy the dialogue we create between us. Details about the weekend’s events can be found here.
Another Theatrical Sound Design in the Can
I have just completed my second sound design for theatre this winter for Danny: King of the Basement, produced by First Light Theatre in Guelph. Thank you Rosemary Walton for the opportunity to team up with you in entertaining and educating school kids about the challenges of child poverty with this very cool play.
HER2 plays to rave reviews!
The play I created sound and music for closes February 1st. It has enjoyed a stellar run with some fab reviews including this one by Susan Cole at Toronto’s Now Magazine:

Jennis Woodshedding While Dennis Snowbirds
Jennis is on a break from gigging until Dennis returns from his Costa Rica in the spring. (I am excited to visit in February!) Meanwhile, we are applying for festivals and house concerts and cooking up some new material to entertain you with when we reconvene along with the warmer weather.
HER2 Opens January 13th!
I’ve been nose-down, ears charged and heart exploding while I create all the music and sound design for this new play. This is my second sound design/music composition job for Nightwood Theatre. It’s been an exciting process and the whole fine crew have been co-creating a beautiful piece of theatre. True to form, Maja Ardal has managed to inject a lot of humour into a very serious subject based on her own experience as a cancer survivor. So never fear that a play about a breast cancer drug trial is going to be just a big downer. It’s intense, heart-warming, beautiful, and funny, too!
Opening night is Tuesday, January 13th at Buddies In Bad Times Theatre and the play runs until February 1st.
